As the title of this series implies, these images focus on the inherent beauty of the surface of salt ponds with their intricate patterns of crystallization. Photographed up close in order to capture the detailed structure of the salt formations, they are cropped in order to focus on the abstract quality of these salt crusts. The myriad patterns of crystallization animate not only the surface of these ponds, but also the surface of the photographs, giving them a textured tactile quality, and thus in turn, conveying the real elemental materiality of these landscapes.
