saltLINES

The series saltLINES attempts to capture the linear traces of the salt deposits which meander over the flats and collect along the shoreline. There is something about the white expanse of the salt flats dissolving into the sea that led me to think of the landscape as a canvas where the traces engraved by the salt are like the artist’s marks on a page. One finds an intricate web of lines and texture formed in the salt which, rendered in black and white photography, has a decidedly graphic graphite quality. It is nature’s drawing.

The photos in this series have been combined in diptychs, quadriptychs or other horizontal groupings in order to give sweep to the linear flow of the salt lines, which, in turn, follows the rhythm and movement of the landscapes.
