NIGHT SKY
Night Sky is a photographic series which questions how our built environment affects how we see and experience our natural environment. The geometry of urban architecture literally frames our lives. We are essentially the contents within a social structure which is defined by the rigorous geometry of the urban container. Natural elements such as gardens or parks exist within this framework. Whether we are talking about an expanse of lawn or a crop of trees, these green elements are always delimited by the concrete footprint of the city.
In Night Sky the irregular hexagonal or heptagonal form of each photo mimics the imposing geometry of urban architecture which both frames and obstructs our view of the sky. The use of different camera angles in the treatment of the depicted architecture serves both to create a perspective which draws the eye into the star speckled night sky*, as well as reminding us, that from no matter what angle we attempt to view the sky, the surrounding architecture will always impede our view.
